Dr. Hackett

Dr. Sharon Hackett, MD, FRCPC, FAAD has been a practising dermatologist since 1984. Dr. Hackett completed her undergraduate education at McGill University, medical school at McMaster University and posgraduate education in dermatology at McGill university. She entered medical school with the intent to study oncology but after spending elective time in dermatology, was attracted to this specialty because of the need to develop medical and surgical skills and because of the variety of age groups requiring treatment. She also completed an extended 6 months of geriatric medicine and skin diseases.

Dr. Hackett practised dermatology from 1984-1996 in Montreal and was affilited with McGill University teaching hospitals and the Melanoma Clinic in Montreal. She then moved to the United States and practised in Philadelphia with a group of dermatologists who were also involved with teaching of medical students and residents. There she developed an interest in dermatological diseases associated with skin of colour. From Philadelphia she moved to work in Vermont and New Hampshire where she was affilited with Dartmouth Medical Centre. She moved back to Canada to work in Calgary in 2005.

In all areas where she practised, Dr. Hackett has been involved with teaching medical students, interns and residents in family medicine, internal medicine and dermatology. She has also lectured to family and nurse practitioners as well as to hospital staff in the United States and Canada. She has been involved with clinical trials for Psoriasis and Acne.

Dr. Hackett is primarily a medical dermatologist with an interest in cosmetic dermatology and lasers. She has particular interests in psoriasis, acne, atopic dermatitis and enjoys the spectrum of pediatric to geriatric patients. She finds dermatology to be interesting and challenging because of the evolving new technologies and medications.

Dr. Hackett is a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian Dermatology Association and an associate of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Outside of dermatology, Dr. Hackett is interested in music, art and the outdoors. She loves skiing, swimming, and cycling. She enjoys working in Calgary and is looking forward to being a part of the new and innovative changes that are taking place at the Institute for Skin Advancement where she is fortunate to work with the enthusiastic team of nurses and support staff in the office.
