Photodynamic Therapy
PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY – LEVULAN, METVIX & Photodynamic Therapy (Blue Light and Red Light)
What is Photodynamic Therapy?
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment performed using topical medications called Levulan® or Metvix, which are activated through the use of a blue light called the BLU-U®. These medications have been used extensively for the treatment of a variety of different skin conditions and are approved by the FDA for the treatment of sun damaged skin. BLU-U® light treatment also has the ability to reduce oil glands, effectively treating acne, without oral medication. In addition, these treatments help remove the pre-cancerous spots called actinic keratoses, which are caused by sun damage.
What can Photodynamic Therapy do for my acne?
Active acne can be improved quite dramatically through the use of the Blue Light and Red Light combined (no topical medication application involved). You may also see improvement of large pores, less oil on the skin, and generally smoother, more uniform skin.
